Youth Leadership Forum ( YLF )
2009 YLF delegates and staff
Started in 1999, the Alabama Governor's Youth Leadership Forum is an
innovative, intensive, five-day career leadership training program for high
school juniors and seniors with disabilities throughout Alabama. Program
activities focus on career planning, leadership development, technology
resources and information on disability history to assist young people with
disabilities in reaching their maximum potential.
The forum is held on the campus of Troy State University in Troy in June of
each year. There is NO charge for student delegates and
volunteers to attend this forum. Participants are responsible for their own
transportation to and from Troy State University. Below is the application in
PDF format. The deadline for this year's
YLF
has passed.
Here is what past delegates say about
YLF :
"I'm more understanding about others' ignorance and more aware of other
disabilities out there. The program has made me more sensitive to others'
views, yet more assertive and empowered in my own views." - Jennifer,
YLF
2001
"Encourage others to attend (the forum); it will benefit them -- most of all
emotionally -- to see how life is, through other people. The forum helped me
become more confident, more open about my disability. Before, I was shy." -
Deepak,
YLF
1999
"I thought the forum was great! I enjoyed myself, and being on my own at Troy
State helped me make the transition to Bevil State." - Chris,
YLF
1999
