four sections representing different disabilities

MAPS is a collaborative project between the Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs, Easter Seals of the Birmingham Area, and the Alabama Department of Rehabilitation Services for the Alabama Career Center System. The initiative was created by Social Security Administration and directed by the U. S. Department of Labor. Funding comes from the U. S. Department of Labor (grant # SGA/DFA-06-02).

The purpose of the project is to implement a statewide Disability Program Navigator network within Alabama to enhance service delivery for jobseekers with disabilities. This initiative was established to better inform beneficiaries and other people with disabilities about the work support programs available at the One-Stop Career Centers. The project is intended to identify and overcome barriers to employment for Alabama’s citizens with disabilities.

Staff include one coordinator, six navigators and one human service aide serving the entire state. Staff are located in the local Career Centers to facilitate the services to people with disabilities.
